Sports massage aims to enhance performance, reduce the risk of injury and speed up recovery times for sports men and women. I employ a number of techniques to ease muscle tension, improve circulation and increase mobility. Sports massage is also said to have psychological benefits by preparing the athlete for competition and aiding recovery afterwards.
Massage before an event involves stretching muscles to improve flexibility and circulation which is important to injury prevention. Post event, massage aims to loosen muscles that have become stiff during competition and therefore aid relaxation. Weekly maintenance sports massage eases pain brought about by intensive training and keeps muscles flexible and in good health for forthcoming competition.
Sports massage used during the sporting season and off-season is an important aspect of many athletes' training plan, ensuring muscles are strong and able to cope with high-level activity.
Pre-natal pregnancy massage aims to reduce the discomfort and pain caused by the constant growth of the baby and resultant changes in weight distribution around the mother's body. This can lead to problems with the neuromuscular system causing muscle aches, joint stiffness and cramps as well as stress and insomnia.
My aim is to stimulate muscle and circulatory function using medium pressure stroking movements. This method reduces swelling (known as oedema) caused by poor circulation and pressure on blood vessels from the heavy uterus. By increasing blood circulation, the oxygen and nutrients present in blood cells also benefit both mother and foetus.
Pressure on the sciatic nerve from the uterus resting on the pelvic floor and lower back causes tension in the muscles resulting in back pain. Pregnancy massage releases this tension and lower back pain is greatly reduced. Hormonal changes benefit from pregnancy massage as the relaxation process relieves any anxiety or depression.
Post-natal massage aims to restore the elasticity of stretched skin and muscles to their pre-pregnancy state while also helping to aid relaxation and increase energy levels.
Most massage treatments will relax you, among other things. With a relaxation massage, relaxing you is the only aim. For this reason, it is one of the most complete and indulgent massages you can have.
You will have a long, luxurious full body treatment massage which will use all kinds of techniques including long strokes, gentle kneading and rolling of skin and muscle, and perhaps some rhythmic rocking from side to side.
A good relaxation massage relieves stress and tension in your muscles and will leave you oozing with a sense of wellbeing. Relaxation massage achieves this because of the general benefits of massage: it improves your circulation, so your organs and skin get more oxygen; it moves fluid through your lymphatic system. A relaxation massage encourages your body to digest its food, and get rid of its toxins. It will help you to sleep better. A massage will also help un-knot any muscles, soothe aches and sprains and encourage the skin to heal minor abrasions.
This is the massage to choose if you just want to chill out, and be pampered and spoiled!
The aim of remedial massage is to identify the root cause of unbalance in the body, lessen its symptoms and encourage the body's natural healing process. Remedial massage aims to improve muscle, ligament and tendon function by allowing these soft tissues to move freely. In cases of injury, or chronic muscle tension caused by disease or disorder, painful adhesions in muscle connective tissue builds up preventing movement. Muscles that are not able to function properly can also block circulation and cause inflammation through a build up of toxins.
By applying pressure and friction across and along the muscle fibres, I work to break down adhesions in the connective tissue and restore range of movement. The release of muscle tension improves circulation, reduces stress and aids pain relief.
In our session I also use passive and assisted stretching. These techniques correct the body's structure, ease restricted movement and re-establish normal circulation. By doing so, the body will function efficiently minimising further damage or disease.

I am a qualified Massage Therapist who has recently relocated to Sheffield from Sydney, Australia.
In our busy lives I believe that massage should not be considered a luxury service, but an integral part of maintaining our physical and emotional wellbeing.
Having studied in Canberra, Australia under some of the best Remedial, Therapeutic and Sports Trainers and Therapists in the country, I have a holistic approach to my work - not only looking at the main area of pain or discomfort, but understanding how the muscles work together and how they affect the body overall. My work always has a relaxation element as I believe it's important that even after a deep tissue session you should leave feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.
I love my work and I look forward to meeting with you soon to discuss your needs and how massage can benefit you.
